Will it ever end???? Mike and I are awake for hours in the middle of the night...fortunately Sean was only up for a little while (we think) and he stayed in his room all night! So that is success. We sleep in at least, so are getting a pretty good amount of sleep. However, we think we're going to set an alarm tomorrow morning hoping that we'll be more tired when we go to bed and will sleep through the night. Didn't think I'd be talking about sleeping through the night again!
Today we did our first "tourist" thing - we went to the National History Museum. The big attraction is the T Rex and other dinosaur exhibits (very cool) and we also enjoyed a life sized replica of a Blue Whale. Our favorite exhibit was about an earthquake in Kobe, Japan in 1985 and they had a simulation of what it would feel like to be in a real earthquake. We did that "ride" a few times! This museum is huge and fortunately is free, as we'll go back many times just to see everything. It is also very close to Mike's office/classroom, so Sean and I will probalby go there (or the Science Museum or Albert and Victoria Museum which are across the street) while Mike is working. We stopped in today at FIE (the organization we are working with), but it was their first day back after the holidays and they were not prepared to do much for us...we did see Mike's "office", which is a desk and computer in a shared room. Not a big deal though, he'll mostly work from home we think.
It had snowed a bit when we got up this morning, so it was pretty cold again. Tomorrow more of the same we hear (-3 to 3 degrees C, which is around 25-35 degrees F). It didn't seem as cold today as we dressed in more layers - thanks goodness for long underwear!! And the museum was heated well... On the way home we decided to walk part of the way, which of course Sean had to use the toilet (that's what they say here) not really near anything. But we managed to find a Starbucks - yes Starbucks. They are all over - not quite like the US, but more than we thought. There is also KFC, Burger King and McD's...which we hope to avoid at all costs! We'd only go there for Sean - he is having some difficulty adjusting to the different food. Even if we get something like mac and cheese, it is slightly different and he won't eat it. So we are keeping our fingeres crossed that he doesn't lose any weight - and that Mike and I do! :)
We navigated the Tube today like regular Londoners - it is a really easy system - we need to figure out the bus system next...we'd like to do more buses because we'll see so much more of London that way....and double decker buses are cool!!
