Hallo! We successfully had our first of several excurstions with our students, and we all had a great time. We met up at the student's flat (meaning we had to get up really early and travel to them) and loaded a coach bus headed northwest of the city. We learned that Sean is indeed prone to bus sickness, so that wasn't pleasant...but also learned that kids can take Dramamine so that helped on the way back (he slept the whole way back, so of course didn't get to sleep very early). Anyway, we had a great time at Warwick Castle - the first four pictures are from there (including me with King Henry the VIII, taken by Sean). Madame Tussaud's owns the Castle now, so there are lifelike wax figures in part of the castle. We visited the dungeon (Sean wanted everyone to know that we were not held captive there - we were just visiting!) and went up on the towers - a great view of the Cottwalds area of England. As you can see, it was pretty cloudy and windy yesterday. We also went to Stratford-Upon-Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace. We took a group picture of the students with Sean there, and Sean got to "meet" a "real" statue. I thought the mime statue would freak him out, but he loved it! Had a lovely lunch in Stratford - typcial English lunch of a jacket potato (baked potato) with cheese and baked beans (a tomato sauce instead of our baked beans), and Sean had a typical kids English breakfast - eggs, bacon (more like our ham), toast, and baked beans. Yum!
We continue to be impressed by our students - they were very interested in learning all they could about our excursion from our guides in the castle and Shakespeare's birthhouse (and the cottage his wife grew up in - Anne Hathaway), and they have done some museums, etc. on their own too. So far so good!!
